About CII's Young Indians
Promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Young Indians ('Yi') , is a group consisting of Young Indian entrepreneurs, owner - managers and professionals from various walks of life, with the broad objectives of creating a better future for the Indian youth of today as well as create leaders for the India of tomorrow. Yi undertakes activities in areas like, economy, education, healthcare, youth affairs, employability and the environment. We start by creating platforms for knowledge dissemination, discussion and debate and follow up with concrete action in some cases/areas by using a combination of CII/Yi and other resources.
Yi Youth Affairs
Our Youth Affairs program currently engages students from across the nation and seeks to instill in them the core elements of discipline, builds character, channelizes positive energies, moulds skills and fosters leadership.
Yi Youth Affairs has emerged as one of the most active focus areas within CII's Young Indians. Over the years, our student networks have undertaken various initiatives that the students conceptualise, plan and execute. The objective of the Youth Affairs program is to create a bridge, a platform for the students to work in cross functional teams with a broad objective of giving back to the nation. In the process, the students work in leadership roles while operationalizing projects that are based on self development, skill building, community development and nation building. Projects have ranged from the Integrity India Campaign against corruption, debating on affirmative action and reservations in education and working for the upliftment of street children to gifting power to rural schools, skill building workshops and projects involving AIDS awareness, counselling women facing domestic violence and working towards reduction of curable blindness.
Yi currently has over 3000 students from 35 educational institutions across the country as part of the Yi Student Nets.
Effective 31 August 2007 , Yi Youth Affairs seeks to include farmers as an exclusive network to add to the vibrant group of CII's Young Indians. We believe that we cannot truly emerge as the "Voice of a Young India" without the active involvement of Rural Indians.
The launch of the Yi National Farmers Network would be a major milestone as it marks the beginning of our engagement with the young and dynamic farmers as well as thought leaders from Rural India in our nation building process.
Objectives of the CII-Yi Aries Agro Limited National Farmers Network
Indian Agriculture is laden with paradox. One of the most glaring is the Paradox of Productivity - having the largest cultivable land mass on the planet with one of the lowest productivities. Time and time again, pockets of excellence have emerged and Indian agriculturists have tilled their land and emerged world class. However such pockets of excellence are still isolated success stories. Information gaps are wide gulfs that paralyse agricultural productivity.
The aim of the First ever National Farmers Network is to attempt to bridge the information gap using knowledge as a catalyst. The National Network will focus on two way knowledge dissemination between Rural Bharat and Urban India. We hope to engage progressive farmers from across the nation in a meaningful dialogue to spread awareness about the best practices in farming being followed in India and adapted from all over the world. We will bring together on a common platform, scientists, research scholars, agriculturists, students, government officials and industry to ensure that information flows freely and without barriers.
Knowledge is Power - and it is through the power of knowledge that we hope our National Farmers Network will make history by equipping farming communities to raise benchmarks, adopt cost effective farm management processes, follow integrated nutrient management and crop protection programmes and consequently improve productivity levels to match global standards of quality and quantity.
We will also have Yi members and Yi student networks from urban India interact with farmers and explore opportunities to learn rural best practices in several core areas. These interactions would shatter stereotypes and could include cultural appreciation, language skills, study of Indian scriptures and gurukul systems, exposure to rural market dynamics through rural immersion programmes, alternative medicine and comprehending the science underlying traditional therapies, among many others.
Exchange programmes across Urban and Rural educational Institutions and advisory services in the form of farmer meetings, study tours, visits and courses at Agricultural Universities, conduct of trials and farm demonstrations, SMS based weather alerts, prices of major agricultural output and soil sampling services along with issue of soil health cards will also be available to Yi Farmers Network Members.
